Faith and Family Update

This week is powerfully important for people who desire to demonstrate faith outside the church walls. The following information is made available to the Capital Coalition, a diverse faith group supportive of traditional faith and family values. I thought this would be a good thing to share with my readers today. Provided we keep legislators alert about our concerns, we have several good measures under consideration at the end of the session.

Louisiana House goes into session at 10:00 on Monday; Senate goes into session at 12:30 p.m.

Legislature goes out of session on Monday 6/21 !!!!!

Friday is the deadline for every bill to have passed at least once in each house – only concurrences and conference committee reports after that.

END OF DAY TUESDAY

HB 1453 – by Johnson – exclude abortion from medical malpractice – passed the House and Senate Health and Welfare but was recommitted to Senate Finance by Sen. Chaisson. On Tuesday, the bill was brought out of Finance and back to the floor. It is now pending in the Legislative Bureau.

HB 1259 by Burrell – cyberbullying – many of us do not like this bill at all because it is overbroad in its definition of cyberbullying. Sen. Crowe successfully attached some amendments on the Senate floor. Today, the House rejected the Senate amendments and the bill will now go to conference committee.

SB 381 – by Sen. Morrell – deals with solicitation for crime against nature (reduces the penalty from a felony to a misdemeanor) – passed House Criminal Justice – Reps. Perry, Norton and White voted against it.

HCR 225 by Rep. Patricia Smith – requests BESE to evaluate the effectiveness of sex education programs in the state and the Louisiana Youth for Excellence Program (Governor’s program on abstinence, Daniel Kirk, Director) – passed House Education but was amended by Rep. Hoffmann to exclude the LYFE (Gov. abstinence program).

WEDNESDAY

SB 528 by Sen. Broome – Ultrasound before abortion – House Floor
HB 989 by Stiaes – changes to Marriage and Family Therapy act – concurrence on Senate amendments scheduled on the House Floor
HB 303 by Henry – homeschool athletics – concurrence on Senate amendments scheduled for House floor

THURSDAY

SB 798 by Sen. Walsworth – home school diploma equivalency – House Floor

PENDING ON THE HOUSE FLOOR
SB 453 – by Cheek – two physician safeguard in organ donation

SB 606 – by Martiny – Religious Freedom Act

PENDING ON THE SENATE FLOOR

HB 287 by Rep. Cortez – remove mother’s day out programs from daycare regulations

HB 1485 – by Mills – LaPost

HB 1123 – by Gallot – re-write of organ donation statute

Pray for the legislators and ask the Lord to give them wisdom so that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives for the glory of our God.

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
