I know it is an old word but it is a new word to me. It is too long for my Words with Friends app.
Listen to the definition: a characteristic property that defines the apparent individual nature of something. A lineament is those things about our faces that distinguish us from other people: your eyes, your nose, the shape of your mouth and chin.
A lineament could also be the thing that describes our character or attitudes. For example a person’s typical measured speech could be the lineament that distinguishes a person of great stature. A lineament could be the calming tone of a person’s voice.
We all have them, lineaments that is.
Spiritually speaking our passion is that our lineaments reveal that the person of Christ has made an indelible mark on our lives, personalities, attitudes and behavior.
My prayer today is . . .
Father, “draw on my soul the lineaments of Christ,
in every trace and feature You wish to make,
for I am Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus,
Your letter written with the Holy Spirit’s pen,
Your soil ready for the sowing, then the harvest.
May I seek . . .
after an increase of divine love for You,
after unreserved resignation to Your will,
after extensive compassion for others,
after patience and fortitude of soul,
after a heavenly disposition,
after a heart that pleases You in public and private.”
